Hi, I've been doing some reading about the inter railing but have come on here for some more advice :)
We are organising a tour of europe for 5 of us in August. Buying a 15 day pass and going on the eurostar.

I have read that our interrail ticket doesn't cover us for the journeys in GB and the train to france, but does it cover us on the way back again?

the cheapest option we can see is to get the national express down to london and from london st pancras to the cheapest stop in france and the start using the inter rail ticket to get us to brugge by the first night.
This looks easily do able if we leave london at around 12.00 midday.

when we first use our inter rail passes in france does that count as the first day of use?

It seems hard to book some trains in advance because if you get delayed or decide to stay longer in a city then your bookings for the rest of the holiday are screwed up!

We have a preliminary route worked out and i'll post it up in a while! dont want to bombard you with too much stuff at first!

Many thanks
Martin

unless you find cheap airfare from your place in England to somewhere in Europe.

Yes. You should specify this date when buying the 15 days pass.

cheers man, the cheapest way we have found to do it is fly out from east mids to paris CDG. 40 pounds each way and its only a 45 min drive to the airport.
how easy is it to get from CDG to a paris trainstation that can get you to brugge?

Is there a really detailed map I can use?

thanks
Martin

Hi!

If you are arrive at CDG, you have two options:

- If you have a valid IR pass already, you get a so called contremarque at the RER (fast suburb railway) station which you can use to go to Paris Gare du Nord (RER B). There you have at least hourly TGV trains (3/10€ supplement payable) up to Lille, where you can continue to Kortrijk or Gent where you finally can change for a train to Brugge.

- Or you are lucky and are in time for a direct TGV from CDG to Lille and Bruxelles - check the schedule planner for possible connections. :)

PS: What kind of map are you thinking about?

You can as well consider flying to some other European airport along your route, if it is cheaper, and start your interrail from over there.

Paris airport has frequent direct TGV trains to Brussels, from where you can get to Brugge.

detailed map... well, InterRail is normally sold with a railway map of Europe - not a very detailed one, but main lines are there. Or you can just go to some major bookstore to find one.

Use a schedule planner like it is described here: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
We also have a topic on the forum: https://rail.cc/en/paris-brussels-bruxelles-train/f3992

For maps also have a look here: www.bueker.net/trainspotting/maps.php

if you still haven't booked anything its worth bearing in mind that a eurostar ticket to brussels allows you to travel anywhere in belguim for 24hrs.
