I'm travelling from Prague to Croatia for a spot of swimming in the sea.I need one stop along the way -Can anyone recommend somewhere beautiful in Austria with easy connections I was thinking Salzburg ? I think there is a direct train from Salzburg to Rijeka?
Is Salzburg nice ??
I'm looking for some nice landscapes..

Salzburg is definitely nice and worth a stop.
For example in the morning by train from Vienna to Salzburg and at night continue by night train to Rijeka:

If you want a bit more sleep, continue from Salzburg to Munich and get there in the night train... as it is coming from Munich via Salzburg to Rijeka. :)

There's train to Linz leaving Praha at 0716; at Linz you can change for a train to Salzburg where you'd arrive at 1349. A direct train leaves Praha at 1716, arriving Linz at 0014. Other connections available via Vienna (check with the schedule planner).

Yeah, however you have to consider that you'd need two travel days if you want to use the train at 1716 to Salzburg. Kind of a bummer... Salzburg is nice of course for a 1 or 2 day stopover.
Maybe have a look at Graz as well...you could go there from Praha via Vienna either overnight or during the day. From Graz you'd have a direct train at 1036 to Rijeka.
And if you want to continue to Zürich you have kind of a direct train from Rijeka...you only need to change the carriage in Ljubljana since the coaches from Rijeka run to München only but are attached to a Zürich-bound train in Ljubljana. :)

Thanks so much for your help. I have found a train departing Prague at 0716 which goes to Salzburn, changing at linz which I think will be easy enough ??
And then there's the night train to Rijeka from Salzburg at 0134 which I can take after a couple of days in Salzburg.
I think I am finally getting somewhere with this!

Changing in Linz won't be a problem - also in the case of a delay you have frequent trains to Salzburg.
