Im travelling in May/June for a month.
I plan to go from Uk - Bruges, and ending in Paris before heading back to UK.
I have a rough journey set out for stops in between, but I don't really want to book any trains until I get there to allow more flexibility, in case I decide to stay longer somewhere, or squeeze in some more stops.
I know some trains need to be reserved - i think more so, the night trains, and I expect to do a few of these.

How far in advance should I book them ? Can I book them in, say 24 hours, or even 12 hours advance? Or should I allow longer in case they get full ? Are the supplements cheaper if you book in advance ?

Any advice on this subject would be good.

(In case it helps, my rough plan is: Uk -Bruges - Amsterdam - Berlin - (maybe Krakow) - Vienna - Zabreb/Rijeka - Libljana - Venice - Rome - Interlachen - Nice - Pyrenees - Paris - UK)

In most cases you will have to book at least 24 hours in advance.
In the summer months night trains are often full. I recommend booking 3 days in advance.

Supplements are the same, no matter when you book. In most cases you can book on your departure day as well, if there are seats/couchettes left. But deadlines vary from country to country.

Your travel is not in peak period, so the risk of having the train fully booked is not high. Nevertheless, try to book in advance trains departing on Fridays or Sundays, or during some national holiday, or major festival or sport event.
