I need to get from Berlin to Porto on 02 May/03 May until 05 May/06 May for Queima das Fitas, but I can't find any sites that will show me routes/fares/tickets for this. Can you help?

Hi!

Well...quickest route probably would be Berlin - Köln - Paris - Irun - Coimbra - Porto, starting in Berlin at 0536, arriving Porto the following day at 0944.
On the way back you could go Porto - Vigo - Medina del Campo - Valladolid - Paris - Köln - Berlin, leaving Porto at 0755, arriving Berlin the following day at 1811.

The appropriate IR ticket would be the 5in10 global pass for 159€...plus there would be some additional supplements, since you would be traveling with Thalys, TGV, Surex, IC, Talgo and Elipsos trains - this would be around another ~120€ since especially Thalys and Elipsos are quite expensive.
Note that there would be alternative conncetions as well which would avoid these expensive trains but then the journey may take a little bit longer. Also, dont forget that with IR you cant travel for free in your country of residence - if you are German, you would need a regular DB ticket from Berlin to the border at Aachen and back.

Have you considered taking a plane - it might be cheaper and since you would stay in Porto just for a few days it is probably also more convenient to take the fast plane. On the other side, if you want to use the train, I could help you to plan your journey to and from Porto in detail - looking for other schedules, avoiding supplements etc... :)

Thanks very much for your reply! I think a plane is going to be better and a hell of a lot easier, I just wanted to see what it would take to go by train as I've travelled through mainland Europe by rail before (Prague-Brno-Vienna-Ljubljana / Ljubljana-Budapest) but I didn't realise it was going to be such a major palavar!
Thanks again.

Prague-Vienna-Ljubljana-Budapest is only 1200km.
Berlin-Porto is 3000km.
So one travel days is good for such a journey. :)

But I agree that for such a long journey only staying a few days in Porto a plane might be more comfortable. ;)
