Hey guys,

Am planning on going round Europe after I have graduated, probably August with approximately two other people. Problem is...we don't have a clue where we should go and wondered if anyone had any good routes. We want to go as many places as we can within a month. Only have a rough idea where we want to go at the moment. Hostels is the plan!

Paris, Bruges, Berlin, Praha, Krakow, Bratislava, Budapest, Zagreb, Slovenia, Greece, Italy...and then it goes a bit to pot from there!

Any suggestions would be more than welcome!! eek!! :D

Hi,

Do you have any preferencies - such as beaches, or beautiful cities, or striking landscapes, or something else that you want most? ) Europe has a lot of everything and it's a bit hard to point out some routes or places without knowing what you need )

Hi

I'm planing a trip arround europe too, with an almost exactly route but i will do it in June.
I will do LISBON-BRUGGES-AMSTERDAN-BERLIN-KRACOVIA-PRAGA-VIENA-BUDAPESTE-ZAGREB-LJUBLJANA-MILAN.
I tried to stay 2 days in each city, almost the days sleeping in a hostel, cause the trips by train, would'nd be longer.
So i would like some advices too, one important question to me, is abouto the hostels, should i reserv or or should go with no reservation? The ideia of Free spirit seduces me, but i'm afraid that if i don't reserve it, i will pay much more. What would you advice?
Thanks

ALICE - I tried to go to Greece by CORFU, the problem is that you lost 1 day in each trip, and you dont have boat every day, so i would have to reserv 5 day's to go there.

Hi,
Most hostels charge flat fare, so you'll pay the same money anyway. Since you're going in June, it's unlikely that hostels will be fully booked.
(for hotels, advance prices are really often much cheaper - sometimes cheaper than hostels)
But if you don't make advance reservation, be sure to have a list of possible hostels (or a guidebook with such list) with you.

Hi.

And concerning your travel route, have a look at these links...

Lisbon-Brugges:
https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/lisbon-hendaye-th-310/74
https://rail.cc/en/paris-brussels-bruxelles-train/f3992
Like mentioned at the link to Paris-Brussels (yes I know Brugges and Brussels are different citis ;) ) always avoid the THALYS train and use free IC trains in Benelux.

Brugges-Amsterdam:
https://rail.cc/en/brussels-bruxelles-amsterdam-train/f3994

Amsterdam-Berlin:

Berlin-Prague:

Prague-Krakow:

Krakow-Vienna:

Budapest-Zagreb:

From Zagreb you can travel to Rijeka at the Croatian coast and then by bus to the islands of Krk or Cres (a lot of camp sites there) - or go down to the South by bus.

Zagreb-Ljubljana:
By day train. Free.

Ljubljana-Milan:

Thanks everyone!

I should have been more precise...am wanting cities (I think) maybe with a beach thrown in somewhere along the line!

I was planning on looping round Europe (mainly cos I don't like flying!) Is this possible in a month?

yes, it is possible in a month. Can you please specify your starting point (I mean, where do you live)?

I'm from England so was going to get the eurostar and start in Paris.

Has anyone on here looped round Europe?

Yeah, my first InterRail was something like a loop ) i think it's a good choice for the first trip.

So, since you're going to cross the channel by Eurostar, seems like it's best to have your journey begin In Paris and end in Bruges (to take Eurostar back home from either Brussels or Lille). Or vise versa - start from Belgium, finish with Paris. You can even choose one of these 2 options according to availability of discounted Eurostar tickets for your dates.

August is the busiest month, so if your trip is not entirely in August, it's best to visit major tourist centres (such as Praha, Venice, etc) in September or July. You'll find it easier to get seats on trains and beds in hostels.

Since you're on a tight schedule, you may want to use night trains as often as possible. Some of your suggested cities are too close to take night trains, but you may use zig-zag routes to make it. For instanse, instead of going straight Berlin - Prague - (Krakow) - Bratislava - Budapest you can make it this way: Berlin - Budapest - Krakow - Prague - Bratislava (via Vienna). All these trips are doable with night trains. There are several possible combinations of that kind - read country sections of this forum to figure out possible connection. Say, in Italy you can practice the same tactics - instead of straight route you can take night train to Rome from some other country, then ride back at night to Venice, than again forward to say Naples and again back to Florence or Milan.
