Can anyone recommend a tried and tested route for a two week holiday starting from London? I love Barcelona and Amsterdam and would love to have those on the trip as my partner has never been to either but would rather skip Italy and Spain and maybe head over to Eastern Europe and Croatia in particular.

Also, do you have to buy Eurostar tickets on top of the interrail pass?

Thank you so much to anyone that can help :)

Hi.

First:
Yes you will have to pay the Eurostar tickets extra. You will get a discount (one-way EUR 65), but if you know your departure date in advance, have a look for special offers on their website. You often get even cheaper ones.

Other option is by ferry:
UK-France: https://rail.cc/en/ferry-london-paris-england-france/f1222

UK-Netherlands-Amsterdam:

Or of course a cheap flight to a city in Europe, stay there for some days and then start from there interrailing.

An example trip could be like that:

UK-Paris: like mentioned above.

Paris-Amsterdam: https://rail.cc/en/train/paris-to-amsterdam

Amsterdam-Berlin: https://rail.cc/en/amsterdam-berlin-train/f2346

Berlin-Prague: https://rail.cc/en/berlin-prague-train/f3361

Prague-Krakow: https://rail.cc/en/prague-krakow-night-train/f4027

Krakow-Budapest: https://rail.cc/en/krakow-budapest-night-train/f3305

Budapest-Zagreb: https://rail.cc/en/budapest-zagreb-train/f4053
From there to the coast to Rijeka and by bus to the islands of KRK or CRES (a lot of camp sites there)

A)
Zagreb-Venice: https://rail.cc/en/zagreb-venice-night-train/f1389
Venice-Paris: https://rail.cc/en/venice-milan-paris-night-train/f3675
Back to the UK.

B)
Rijeka-Ljubljana
Ljubljana-Munich: https://rail.cc/en/rijeka-munich-night-train/f3363
Munich-Paris: by direct TGV train (supplement EUR 5)
Back to the UK.

If you want you can stop as well on your way back in Switzerland... but I think it is too much for two weeks. Maybe it is also useful to skip one of the above mentioned cities. But be spontaneous and decide when you are on your trip.

Peter :)
