BARCELONA - LE PETIT TRAIN JAUNE - PERPIGNAN - PARIS / MILAN

There is one rail connection crossing the Pyrenees: Barcelona - Puigcerda - Latour de Carol - Villefranche de Conflent - Perpignan

You will see a beautiful nature and at the French part of your journey, there is a small yellow train (Le Petit Train Jaune) running down the Pyrenees to the Mediterranean coast like a rollercoaster - in the summer months there are even some cars without a roof. Definitely worth to travel !
Traveling with an Rail Pass, this route is free of supplements - even the rollercoaster train.

TIMETABLE:

BARCELONA - LATOUR DE CAROL
http://www.renfe.com/EN/viajeros/cercanias/barcelona/index.html
Select as departure station: BARCELONA SANT ANDREU ARENAL
And as destination: LA TOUR DE CAROL
(The system doesn't accept Barcelona Sants)
It is regional train line R3.

LATOUR DE CAROL - VILLEFRANCHE DE CONFLENT - PERPIGNAN
https://rail.cc/en/search-train-route
Attention: the station you will have to change is called in the train schedules Villefranche Vernet les Bains - but the small city is called Villefranche de Conflent. The station is a mix of Villefranche and Vernet les Bains. It is no problem to change the trains, as it is a very small station.

 In the summer months you have much more trains running this journey.

Hello!
I've tried looking up the timetables for a train between Barcelona and LaTour de Carol, but can't seem to find anything.
If i use [ux]https://plan.rail.cc[/ux] i'm told that I have to go through Cerbere, Perpignan, Villefranche les Bains and then onto La tour de carol, it does not show a direct train. It seems like a big waste of time! Can you post the times of the train leaving from Barcelona to Latour de Carol?
We are leaving Barcelona on June 11th and going to Nice, wanting to try the yellow train on the way.

Thanks in advance!

Rikke

Hi!

Barcelona Sants departure

0700/0917/1206/(1516)

Only the first three trains have connection to the Petit Train Jaune in Latour de Carol. EDIT: The 0700 train has a connection only in summer.

Hi!

The 0700 departure arrives at 1017 but according to my Thomas Cook the connecting service to Latour de Carol runs only in summer (July 4 - Aug 29). :|
If you want to go Barcelona - Latour de Carol - Perpignan now, use the service at 1206.

Okay, thank you!
So what would be our best option in your opinion? We want to end op in Nice, just taking the yellow train on the way.
Which route would be the best (the whole up or down the mountain thing is confusing me!)? And is there a connection to Nice we could catch after our trip on the yellow train?
Thanks!

Hi.

If you start in Barcelona (0917h), arriving in Perpignang (1921h) you can't get to Nice in the evening any more. You will have to stay somewhere there overnight and continue the next morning.
Use the schedule planer for details: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route

Peter :)

I want to get the 9.17 from Barcelona to La tour de carol but I can't figure out how to reserve? Do I need to or is it just the night train from Perpignan to Paris that I need to reserve and pay a supplement for?

Thanks

Hi!

You only need a reservation for the Lunéa night train Perpignan - Paris. For all other trains on this route (Barcelona - Latour de Carol - Villefranche - Perpignan) you dont need a reservation. I was travelling that route in February and got my reservation for a reclining seat (very comfortable) for 1,50€ at Barcelona Sants.

Ok Brilliant, do you think it will be ok to book my seat on the night train when I arrive in Barcelona (3 days before I travel to paris) or will that leave it too late?

Thank you for your help

Hi!

That's always a little difficult to predict...if you're travelling at a weekend the sooner you have your reservation, the better. You can check availability (as well as making the reservation) online at the SNCF website.

I was travelling in February (not high season compared to the summer...) and got my reservation the same day at Barcelona Sants. But in the summer this Lunéa train is certainly more likely to be full.

Ok so I will book asap thank you! Sorry to ask so many questions but I have been on the sncf website and can only seem to find booking actual tickets rather than just reservations and supplements? I can only get to a stage where it says 80 euros for a ticket? I am just after a seat!

Thank you for your help

Hi!

Often you can only find the trains on the line Latour de Carol - Barcelona only on the website of RENFE Rodalies: http://www.renfe.com/viajeros/cercanias/barcelona/index.html

But it happens that even that site isnt working properly...so you can just try again another time. :|

What is the Schedule of La Tour de Carol - Paris night train in 2011? More exactly, I want to travel by this train on 4th July starting from Barcelona to La Tour de Carol. Is this possible?

P.S. what about reservations? You said that it is better to make a reservation online, but it's impossible to do it from La Tour de Carol as the system does not find such a town. I can only make a reservation Perpignan - Paris. So what should I do?

Hi!

If you can make a reservation Perpignan - Paris (for the night train), then go Barcelona - Latour de Carol - Villefranche - Perpignan. The schedule for this connection is here :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train/barcelona-to-paris

If you click on the route and then on each city you will see all timings for each leg. :)
