Hi travelbuddies,
My name is Nick and i am from Greece...I follow this forum for a while and it has been very useful for getting informations for inexperienced travelers...
But now i have some questions to ask and if anyone could help i would be very thankful...
We are planning the interrail trip with a friend of mine for about 6 months...
And we are planning to take the pass for 22 days and follow this route generally:
Athens - Rome - Firenze -Como -Switzerland-France (Alsace and then Paris) - Brugge -Amsterdam-Berlin-Prague-Wien-Venice-Athens.
1) I have some doubts about the length of the trip and if we will enjoy it or we will running like we were in hell to catch up with the trains...What is your opinion???
2) Even if we decide to cut some destinations we will visit Switzerland for sure...But we don't know in which town...After a little search we are between Chur and St.Gallen...What do you recommend us?
3)Last, (for now ;) ), what do you believe is the best number of persons to take an interrail trip .. We are between 2 and 5...Tell me your opinion!
I want to thank in advance and sorry for my English...
I'm waiting for your replys!

Hi Nick ...
1) I recommend to stay at least two nights in the bigger cities (3 are better) - otherwise you are only in a hurry like you said.
On your way up coming from Athens via ferry to Italy, it is no problem to stop in Rome and Florence. As it is on your way to Switzerland.
The best will be to use on some journeys night trains, as you will save time.
Think about skipping Venice on your way back.
Maybe travel down from Berlin via Prague, Budapest, Sofia to Athens?!
2) I like Zurich very much. But it is a personal opinion.
3) 2 is good ... if you are more than 2, you aren't so flexible any more. But it is no problem to split the group during your travels if you want to visit different cities... and meet later on somewhere during your tour. :)

Well i just can answer for point 2, switzerland.
I would recommend Zurich. Is the biggest city in switzerland and has a bit of all.
Also interesting is geneva but it's on the other end of switzerland.
St. Gallen isn't that cool. Is just my opinion but i think it's quite boring and the accent of the people is annoying :P
Chur? How do you come to Chur? If you wanna go to some alpine destination with young folks i would recommend Interlaken.
Well i live here and it's a bit advertisment for my own region ;) but it's quite cool here, lot of hostels and young folks from around the world and the possibility to do some extremesports (like bungee, river rafting, canyoning, skydive etc.). you are quite central (good reachable by train) and got direct trains up to the france border or even to berlin. you are surrounded by some 4000m mountains (eiger, mönch, jungfrau, schilthorn...) got 2 lakes and party :)
edit:
i can even answer another question ^^
i only made a interrail trip with one other guy. i think it's the best because if you have the same interests you don't have to mess around every morning what to do. the more people, the more problems and possible differences in their opinions..

Thank tou for replies !
Peter we have already thought for going through Balkans ,but because of my love for them I think it's better to travel in this region seperately...So we think to take advantage of the discounts in ferries from Venice to Patra...
Thanks for the reccomendations for the Switzerland and the number of persons...
I think I will need your help in the near future!

I know you didn't ask for but concerning switzerland, Geneva is really a must (wonderful parks, museum & very cosmopolite city), as far as I am concerned I never ever get tired of it , but of course it's quite an expensive city. Anyway, if you are intersted to visit the city, Geneva annual feast took place from July 28th to August 8th.
