I am trying to book train tickets between Stockholm and Copenhagen for the beginning of June. This does not seem to be possible at the moment. Is it too early? Any suggestions?

I notice it is possible til may 26 (at sj.se). After that I see "planerat banarbete". Means planned track works. Looks like you have to be patient.

In general it is already quite an achievement for railways that one can book (but why this enormous fears?) more as 2 month ahead-in the south of EUR they often do not even can et that far ahead. Patience is a neat cause and also gives manhood lots of fun. PLUS that for this there are many, many more chances -hourly- to use X2000 train til Malmö and then the O/resundttaget.
It is most often still very well possible to find empty seats on the day of travel itself-this is not the plane to Antarctica.

Sometimes, especially high-speed, early booking is cheaper.

agreed early booking may be cheaper, but even if it isn't Highspeed/Intercity in Sweden needs compulsory reservation.
