Hi.
Were a small group of lads, that want to experience Eroupe in a different way. So we all decided that we want to go interrailing this summer. We're planning to use the month of july. We're starting our journey in Amsterdam. We're all a bit to found of beer, and some of us will be hard to drag out of the coffee shops, but to get our journey going, we've decided to let the dice decide where we are going. We're not going to roll the dice before we start our trip, but we're going to roll it when we are traveling.
Oh and btw, it's going to be filmed, if it's any good, I'll edit it down and put it on the web.
Do you think we're going to have a hard time with reservations etc. since we're traveling in july ?
After reading around I've found out that we wont travle on Sundays and Fridays :P
Best regards; Tenderish.

Hi!
That's certainly an interesting and exciting idea you have. Have you already thought about how it should work in detail?
:arr: Maximum of kilometres per day
:arr: Certain cities you absolutely want to visit
:arr: Certain countries you want/dont want to visit
I recommend making advance reservations for accomodation in Amstedam - it's quite full in summer.
For the rest of the trip: The need for advance reservations (both train and accomodation) largely depends on where you are going - but even in countries like France, Italy, Spain (where you have to make reservations for most long-distance trains) you will always find alternative free connections.
If you want to be on the safe side, I'd let the dice roll the evening before leaving a place - so you have time to check connections and availability of hostels. I think that limits stress a little but still keeps the dont know where we are going next atmosphere.

Thanks for the tips. And I will make reservations for Amsterdam, We'll probably spend the first weekend there. Some of the cities I want to see is luxenburg, Bruges(been there before, and It's one of the most beutiful cities i know of), Beograd. everything from west to east to be honest. Northern Europe and the British iles isnt that interesting, due to the fact, that I live in Norway, and that I've been to the uk alot of times =)
Also I was wondering about the One month pass. Do you think this is a long time to be on the road ? Because i feel like 22 days can be a litle short, if we're going to cover some ground. (if the dice wants us to go to istanbul from Amsterdam, and then to Lisboa).
About setting a maximum of kilometers per day. That would be cheating would it not ? 8)
The idea of rolling the dice the night before i like, gives us time to check out the new country/city on a internet-cafe or something hehe

hej ...
ONE month isn't too much ... if you have the time, do it !! :)
So you won't get in a hurry and enjoy your freedom... just stay one day more or less - it doesn't matters... if I have the time, I always go for one month.
Peter :)

Luxembourg is nice, small...spent a single day there and it was enough. Bruges of course is really beautiful but also kind of...not much to do in my opinion. But definitely worth a visit (if the dice sends you there, of course ;) )...another plus of the Benelux area are the very good railway connections and schedules.

something that might works better and be more interesting is traveling following a daily budget , like going to the train station and asking for the next train with available seats that goes south/north/east/west and costs less than X euros and/or lasts more/less than X hours..
make a flow chart or an algorithm for random inter rail trip 8) :D
