hi i've never travelled with interrail before, but i'm planing on doing so...
so i checked the trains schedules and made a route, but i think it might be a little to much to do in 22 days (travel in 10)
Start at Porto, to Vigo - Barcelona (stay 1 ou 2 days) - Paris (stay 1 or 2) - Amsterdam (stay 1 or 2) - Warsaw (1)- Budapest (1) - Sofia - Istanbul (2) - Thessaloniki (1) - Athens (1) - [ferry boat to italy] Rome (1) - Venice (1) - Milano
Then from milano i would just fly home...
almost all the trains are night trains (to save time) but what do you think? is it too much? are there better routes you would recommend? other countries?
thanks
Peter

hi ...
a lot to travel ... but depends on you, if you want this big journey, it is really a cool one !! :)
my personal favourite route would be like this:
Porto - Paris: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/lisbon-hendaye-th-310/74
Paris - Amsterdam: https://rail.cc/en/train/paris-to-amsterdam
Amsterdam - Berlin: https://rail.cc/en/amsterdam-berlin-train/f2346
Berlin - Prague: https://rail.cc/en/berlin-prague-train/f3361
Prague - Krakow: https://rail.cc/en/prague-warsaw-night-train/f1443
Krakow - Budapest: https://rail.cc/en/krakow-budapest-night-train/f3305
On the following route you have different options by night trains, skipping one city, ... have a look at the country topics of the forum .
Budapest - Beograd: https://rail.cc/en/budapest-belgrade-night-train/f3370
Beograd - Sofia: https://rail.cc/en/belgrade-sofia-night-train/f3410
Sofia - Istanbul: https://rail.cc/en/belgrade-sofia-istanbul-train/f3054
Istanbul - Thessaloniki: day train, read also here: https://rail.cc/en/istanbul-athens-train/f2369
Thessaloniki - Athens: pay attention to the supplements on Greece ICE and ICE trains: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/greece/gr
Ahtens - Patras: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/athens-to-patras
Patras - Bari/Venice: https://rail.cc/en/ferry-greece-italy-patras-bari-ancona-venice/f1348
Bari/Venice - Rome - Milano: by day trains, pay attention to Italian supplements: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/italy/it
And at the end of your tour, I bet you want one more week of holidays at your home. ;)

Hello, I am a first time interrailer, and me and my friend want to do a similar route to the one which you posted up here, starting from London however and getting the eurostar to Paris and then continuing on your route almost (ideally we would like to avoid Warsaw, Krakow and Venice because we have already visited them, however would it make it almost impossible within the time (we also would like to travel for 22 days)) and then get a flight back from Milan. We dont mind alot of train travel however we would prefer to explore the cities a bit more, so wouldnt mind cutting out parts in order to get more time although we would definately like to visit Istanbul. What would your advice be- to get a 22 continous pass or 10 days in 22? Thanks very much!
Lucy and Amy (18 and 19) :)

Hi Lucy and Amy.
A similar route means (?):
Porto - Barcelona - Paris - Amsterdam - Berlin - Prague - Budapest - Bucharest OR Belgrade/Sofia - Istanbul - Athens - Rome - Milan
I would cut off some places, either at the beginning or at the end. Then you can do it with the 10 in 22 Interrail Global Pass.
For example to start in Barcelona and end in Istanbul.
As there is a little problem concerning Greece: no international train connections due to the economical crisis: https://rail.cc/en/greece/xgr
So you would have to travel Istanbul - Athens by bus (starting from EUR 30). Then Athens to Patras by bus (starting by EUR 15) - then to continue by ferry to Italy.
Train connections are here: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
I hope this will help you planing your trip - just let me know if you need more information. :)
And if you like railcc, support it with the purchase of your official Interrail Pass in our partner.
Thank you. Peter :)
