Dear all,

My friend and i have 4 weeks to travel, we have chosen to meet in Paris and take the Paris to Milan direct train immediately (no stop in Paris, sorry!).
We the aim to spend 10 days in Italy and Sicily, traveling to Milan->Naples-> Plalermo->Bari.

We then will take the ferry to Patras where we aim to travel to Olympia->Tripoli->Athens taking a coastal route stopping off a few nights along the coast. We estimate again 10 days here.

The final leg of our journey will take to the Black sea (destination unknown as yet) and then some stops through to Sofia, all with the remainder of the final 9-10 days of the trip.

My question is: if any people have experience with such journeys on inter rail, is this trip actually feasible time wise or are we trying to see to many countries to quickly in the 4 week time allocated?

If needed i can provide a greater plan time wise of our trip but didn't want to write a massive plan for you.

Also if anyone knows estimated travel times between our destinations that would also be a great help in planning our trip.

I hope any one can help, look forward to your replies

Matt

Hi Matt...

You will collect a lot of kilometres, but it is an interesting trip!! :)

For travel times and schedules use the following information: https://rail.cc/en/search-train-route

Paris-Milan: https://rail.cc/en/paris-milan-venice-train/f3674
Milan-Naples-Palermo: https://rail.cc/en/milan-rome-palermo-night-train/f3676

Pay attention to Italian supplements (avoid them using the schedule planer mentioned above): https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/italy/it
You can buy supplements for Italian trains in advance (especially for the night trains):https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/italy/it

Bari-Patras: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-ferry/italy/it

Patras-Athens: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/athens-to-patras

Athens-Sofia: https://rail.cc/en/athens-sofia-night-train/f3441
You have high supplements in Greece. Pay attention and avoid them (the night train to Sofia is for example a cheap solution): https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/greece/gr

Dear peter,

Thanks for the reply, using the links has been a great help. We are still arranging our destinations.

Could i ask, if the interrail ticket is valid on all railway lines as we have decided that in Sicily and in Greece we would like to go to small towns and villages therefore using local rail lines i pressume. Will our tickets be valid on these lines or is it only from major city to city lines.?

Thanks In advance

Matt

About Greece part..
Greek trains are not popular means of transportation so you may need to use local buses to move to smaller villages or towns , but interrail ticket is valid for all routes made by trains so you will be covered..

From Patras there is a train going near to Olympia and buses too.. from Olympia to Tripoli and from Tripoli to Athens you have to use the bus. If you want to take a coastal route then Tripoli is not an intermediate stop cause it's in the middle of Peloponnese .

Patras >> Olympia >> Patras >> Athens >> ThessalonĂki >> Sofia is a coastal route by train..

Be a bit more specific about what you want to see and visit so that i can be more helpful. 8)
