Hi!
Do you want to only make a stopover during the day or do you want to stay overnight in Stuttgart?
There are fast free IC/ICE connections at least once an hour between the mentioned cities, just use the schedule planner to find them: https://rail.cc/en/search-train-route
If it doesn't work out, give me a hint and I'll help you out.
EDIT: When traveling from Stuttgart to Köln you can choose between two routes: You can either go via Mainz - Bingen - Koblenz - Bonn along the Rhein - a very scenic route that runs close to the river through beautiful landscape most of the time or you can take the fast route from Frankfurt to Köln where ICE trains run with up to 300 km/h.

Well, for a quick stopover during the day you could use this connection:
München dep 0723
Stuttgart arr 0947
Stuttgart dep 1951
Köln arr 2205
Note that there are many other connections available as well. :)
