How does this sound in terms of do-ability with the trains and cost.

London, Paris, Naples, Germany, Holland, Brussels, London

or London, Paris, Brussels, Holland, Germany, Spain, London

Country of residence is the UK. Could fly or get train at either end. We have a fortnight to travel.

Thanks for any advice.

Hej hej ...

First: Western Europe is expensive. Think about traveling maybe as well to some cities in Eastern Europe. Like Budapest, Krakow, ......

I would travel like this:
By plane London-Amsterdam or ferry Harwich-Hoeck van Holland: https://rail.cc/blog/from-london-to-amsterdam-with-the-dutchflyer/
If using the ferry, travel first to Brussels, then up to the north to Amsterdam. Use the free IC trains, not the expensive THALYS trains.

Amsterdam-Berlin ... have a stop in Cologne if you have the time: https://rail.cc/en/amsterdam-berlin-train/f2346

From Berlin to the south either by free ICE day train to Munich, then by night train to Italy:
https://rail.cc/en/munich-rome-night-train/f2872
https://rail.cc/en/night-train/munich-zagreb-en-499/151

Or from Berlin via Prague or Krakow to Vienna (maybe as well Budapest) and then to Italy:
see the country topics with all night trains listed: https://rail.cc/en/countries

Italy along the French coast to Barcelona (have a stop in Nice):

https://rail.cc/en/milan-nice-marseilles-train/f3857
https://rail.cc/en/nice/accommodation/c
https://rail.cc/en/nice-marseilles-barcelona-train/f3420

Barcelona-Madrid-Paris

Have a look on the train schedules: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
And pay attention to supplements in Italy, France and Spain: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation

Paris-London:
https://rail.cc/en/paris-london-eurostar/f1806
https://rail.cc/en/paris-london-ferry-calais-dover/f1442

And if you want to support our forum and all the help, buy your official InterRail pass via [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux]
Delivery is by express mail (24/48 hours on business days). Thank you. :)

Hi!

Both routes are doable within two weeks, however I will give you some suggestions: ;)

:arr:
Naples is quite far away from the other places you want to go; but there is a reasonable overnight connection to get there: Paris - Roma by night train https://rail.cc/en/train/paris-to-rome , then continue by IC/ES/AV (supplement needed - https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/italy/it )
On the way back to Germany, go to Roma again and there take the overnight train https://rail.cc/en/train/rome-to-munich to Munich.
Both connections are doable as well during the day, but since you maybe don't want to sit in the train the whole day (and only have two weeks time) the night trains might be the best option for you.

:arr:
If you want to include Spain, I'd do it right after visiting Paris, otherwise you would have to cross Europe several times. There are good connections from Paris to Madrid https://rail.cc/en/train/paris-to-madrid as well to Barcelona (Note that there is also a cheaper overnight alternative to Madrid - ask me for details).

:arr:
If you want to visit BeNeLux, it is advisable to stay several days in the same city (your base) and make day trips to the other places worth seeing. That could be Gent for instance in Belgium (visit Bruxelles, Antwerpen, Bruges and go to the seaside) and Rotterdam in the Netherlands (visit Amsterdam, Utrecht, Den Haag,...). Since all of these places are perfectly connected by frequent train services it is much more comfortable to stay at the same hostel for several days and visit the other places only for a day.

:arr:
Since you are a UK resident, you will have to buy regular tickets up to the border. If you don't want to fly to the continent, here are your options to get there:
https://rail.cc/en/london-paris-eurostar-train/f1805
https://rail.cc/en/ferry-london-paris-england-france/f1222
https://rail.cc/blog/from-london-to-amsterdam-with-the-dutchflyer/

Note that you will need to pay some supplements for certain trains; have a look at the detailed list here: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation
Have a look at the online schedule planner to plan your route: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route

I have made very good experiences with camping in Paris as well as in the Benelux countries - a good option if you want to save a bit of money.

If you have other questions, feel free to ask. :)

Thanks for the quick replies....

I wasn't quite clear enough - I am actually doing research and asking on behalf of my daughter and some friends who will be doing this trip. It is part of a bigger event and they have to start in Paris and then visit 4 other european countries and end up back in the Uk two weeks later. They have decided they want to do france, germany, holland, belgium and italy or spain. They have contacts in some of the places where they will be able to stay. So I am just trying to work out the most cost effective and efficient way of travelling round these places.

Thanks again.

Well, if you need further information on connections between certain cities just let us know - if they already know roughly where they are going to it makes it easier to make suggestions for certain connections or maybe some stopovers they could do along their route. :)
