Me and two of my friends are hoping to do this route in the summer (first two weeks of August) with the InterRail 5 in 10 day pass.
We are really unsure of the routes and are not even sure it is do-able??
If anyone could help us with anything at all it would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi!
That's an easy doable route with a 5in10 pass.
:arr: Nice - Milano: There are two daily direct EC trains which require a supplement of 5€; you can find more information here: https://rail.cc/en/train/marseille-to-milan
There are alternative connections with regional trains available but since 10 days can be over quickly I'd recommend taking the fast direct train. :)
:arr: Milano - Bern: There are direct EC trains available leaving Milano at 0725, 1120 and 1825. They take around three hours and again require a reservation - expect about 5€. Apart from these direct trains there are also some connecting services available (again with compulsory reservation). Also, there would be connections with free regional trains available but I'd again recommend taking the direct train since crossing the border would get quite tricky otherwise.
:arr: Bern - Amsterdam: Several daily connections with free IC/EC/ICE trains via Basel - Frankfurt - Köln are available; as well as a https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/zurich-amsterdam-cnl40478/17 night train Zürich - Amsterdam that you could enter in Basel.
Hope that helps for now - if you have other questions please ask.
