I have read somewhere in this forum that it is advisable to NOT travel with your laptop computer. Since I am too old to remember everything I have read here (and still have more to read) is it possible to download the forum discussions for printout? This would make some great reading on the trains in preparation for the next stop.

no ... there is no possibility to download it all ...
but it is no problem to take your laptop with you. you will find a lot of travelers using a laptop in trains - I do it as well.
I use a small netbook with a 10 monitor. small, battery up to 8 hours (but in a lot of trains you will find plugs as well for electricity) and with a weight of just 1kg - price was something around EUR 300. Asus EEE netbook.
