After thinking about it for a long time I've decided that this is the year that I'm going to do it. I've narrowed down the places I'm going to Luxembourg > Berlin > Prague > Vienna > Ljubljana > Venice > Florence > Naples > Roma > Bern > Paris
Is this an efficient, doable route in 30 days? How much would I be looking to spend on hostels/hotels on average per night? Any suggestions?
Thanks

Hi ...
This route is definitely doable within 30 days. :)
Have a look at these links for your journey details:
Luxembourg-Berlin: by free German trains - https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
Berlin-Prague: free and direct day trains - https://rail.cc/en/berlin-prague-train/f3361
Prague-Vienna: https://rail.cc/en/prague-vienna-night-train/f1677
Vienna-Ljubljana: via Villach
or if you have the time I recommend you to add Budapest (3 hours by free Railjet from Vienna) - go on to Beograd (Serbia) and then via Ljubljana to Italy:

Thank you for your swift reply and valuable information. No doubt the plan that I have in mind will not be set in stone (That's what Interrailing is supposed to be about, right? Freedom) and Budapest was one of the places I unfortunately had to trim from my original plan, but there might be time for me to include it during the trip.
Regarding accomodation, hostels seem to be relatively cheap, but what about Hotels? Would I get a room for less than €50 per night in these places, or would that be asking too much?
What would be the ideal amount of money to take with me for a month?

Hi!
I'd calculate with at least 1000€. You can do it cheaper too, I did my first month long InterRail with not much more than 600€ - no hostels, just camping or staying at stations or on night trains, cooking by ourselfs etc. On the other hand you can spend much more than 1000€ - staying in good Hostels or even Hotels only, eating out every day etc... ;)
However, if you're looking for cheap hotels you can have a look at Etap Hotels for instance - you can find them in many cities in Europe - they are often not in the very city centre but offer good quality, you pay for the room, no matter if 1, 2 or 3 people stay in.
Talking about the freedom of traveling: On the most routes of your trip you can use train without compulsory reservation - meaning you can extend your stay in one city or shorten it in another just like you want - only on your way from and to Italy you will almost certainly will have to make reservations - if you're traveling in high season it's advisable to make these reservations a few days in advance. Also when traveling in Italy you probably want to travel with fast trains - meaning you will have to make reservations as well.

Hope that helps a little.

Thanks for your help. I will almost certainly take more than that as I don't want to spend the first couple of weeks being careful with my money and subsequently missing out on a lot of what these countries have to offer.
As for reservations, how far in advance would I need to make the reservation? Is it advisable to do it before I travel, thus losing some of the freedom of the trip and moving to a schedule - or could I do it just a couple of days in advance. For example, when I turned up in Ljubljana, could I immediately reserve a seat for Venice in two days time?
Also, some people are understandably concerned about me going alone. Is it advisable to have somebody with you, or is the trip perfectly enjoyable and safe for the lone traveller?
Thanks to any and all help. I'm really looking forward to setting off.

About reservations: Firstly, it depends on when you are going - in high season (July/August) it is advisable to make reservations one extra day in advance, especially on weekends. Then think how important a specific connection is for you - do you have to catch your plane back home in the next city, do you necessarily want to see a certain place? If so, make these reservations as far in advance as you know the exact date to be on the safe side. For other connections you can keep your flexibility buy making reservations one or two days in advance - best thing is to make them directly when you arrive at the station of your current location, so you dont have to go to the station extra for the reservations.
One plus you have is that you're traveling alone - it's easier to get one reservation than to get three or four of them for a small group.
Regarding safety on-your-own: I don't think that's a problem. Just keep your important belognings close to your body (passport, IR ticket, some cash) and behave normal. ;) I've been to most of the cities you're going and never encountered any troubles. When going on night trains also keep your important stuff close to your body (I sleep with my Photorucksack as a pillow if necessary) and if you want, fix your rucksack with a padlock to the luggage rack.
Enjoy your trip! :)

Thanks again for the quick responses. I have decided to make a slight change to the route, starting in Berlin (flying from Bristol) and finishing in Luxembourg instead, as it is easier and slightly cheaper.
I have no more questions about the travelling part, but since I'm going to be staying in hotels for the thirty days, any money saving tips would be greatly appreciated. :D
