I note you cannot use the Interrail pass in your home country but have one free exit and entry. Is that from my home or from a port?

your permitted (it isn't free, it's covered in the price as time spent travelling in home country is time not spent elsewhere) exit/entry is from/to any station in country of residence to/ from a border point. Can be port, airport or Eurostar terminal. You cannot make a tour on this journey, it has to be a logical "direct" route. It's worth finding out what the real fare is then work out whether you are getting value out of a day of the pass.
