Hi, I'm planning on going to Slovenia as part of my interrailing next summer, I'll be taking the train from Munchen to Lake Bled, then to Ljubljana and I want to see the Skocjan Caves before I go to Italy. What is the best way to get from Ljubljana to Skocjan Caves? And can I go straight from the caves to Trieste in Italy? On map it seems like a short way but I don't know if there's an easy way between these places...

Ok thanks... It turns out there is a train from Divaca (near skocjan caves) to trieste, the reason i didn't find any is because it doesn't run on weekends... xo I was starting to think I needed 3 trains and a bus to get there...

hmm, i thought it worked earlier, doesn't work now... I found some imformation about this on lonelyplanet forum, but now I see it's a 7 year old reply, maybe it did run there but doesn't anymore... but I've also heard that there are several buses per day between Trieste and Sezana, but I haven't found anything about it, just something I've heard...

EDIT:
Found this on google:

The project concerns the cross-border railway line section between Italy and Slovenia, which is the nodal point between the eastern and western parts of Priority Project 6 (railway axis Lyon-Trieste-Divača / Koper-Divača-Ljubljana-Budapest-Ukranian border).
Cross-border railway line Trieste/Divača: study and design of the Trieste-Divača-Ljubljana-Budapest-Ukrainian border
2007-EU-06030-S
Part of Priority Project 6
It aims to increase the capacity of the existing railway corridor by creating a direct Trieste-Divača connection, complementary to the existing line. - tentea.ec.europa.eu/download/project_fiches/multi_country/fichenew_2007eu06030s_final.pdf

So there is propably no train there at the moment...

OK, I see. Would have surprised me if there would have been a train connection. Maybe this helps you for crossing the Slovenian-Italian border: https://rail.cc/en/train/ljubljana-to-venice

If you have a valid train ticket, you can take the bus, infront of Divaca station, for free.
Look here:
www.slo-zeleznice.si/en/passengers/additional-offers/bus-transportation

Unfortunately there is no train between Slovenija and Italy in day time. There is only one, in night hours (EN 240) wich stops also in Divača.
You can take the train from Divača to Sežana, or even bether, to Koper, and then with bus, you reach Italy.
Look here:

Price for bus ticket in line Koper-Trieste is 3€.
