SLOVENIA (Ljubljana) - Nova Gorica (Slovenia) - BUS - Gorizia (Italy) - ITALY (Venice, Rome, Milan)

A fast way with several daily connections between Slovenia to Italy is to travel from Slovenia (Ljubljana) to Nova Gorica, the border city of Slovenia to Italy.
There you have a link by bus to Gorizia, the Italian border city. It is only 4 km. The bus number is Number 1. The fare about EURO 1,50.
Then continue by train to Italy (Venice, Rome, Milano, ...).

:!: For individual train schedules use this link: https://rail.cc/en/search-train-route

First search for a connection Ljubljana to Nova Gorica to (3 hours travel time) - FREE Regional trains available!!
Calculate at least 1 hour for the bus transfer. It will be faster - but you never know if you have bad luck, miss a bus or something else.
Then search for Gorizia to an Italian town (for example Venice/Venezia - 2 hours of travel time) - FREE Regional trains frequently available!!

You won\'t find a lot connections if you use train schedule planers searching for direct connections Ljubljana to Venice /Milano / Rome !!!

Hey Peter!

Thanks so much for your help, this is great advice and excalty what we were looking for. Just a question about the route planner, there are several stations for Ljubljana, do you know which one is central or prefable?

many thanks

Hi!

The main station is listed as simply Ljubljana. That's where all long distance trains stop. It's close to the centre, other stops which are close to the city centre as well would be Tivoli, Vodmat and Rakovnik but usually the main station is the best choice. :)
