Hi!

We are thinking about an interrail trip (10 days/22) and we wanted to do a huge route between Northern Europe and Central Europe. The order of the cities (but not the cities themselves) it's not an issue: feel free to change it if you think the one displayed in the topic isn't right. We are thinking as well in swapping between night trains and hostels (or couchsurfing).

We have thought landing in Oslo and then start our trip making a Oslo - Copenhagen/Malmo nightrain; then another nightrain from Malmo to Munich and then head to Wien - Prague - Berlin. The last trip would be a Berlin - Basel trip. We'd like to spend 2 or 3 days in each city.

Do you think this route is madness or viable? Are the nightrain connections possible and how much will they cost?
At last, and if you have an idea, how much money do you think would be necessary, approximately? 400-600?

Looking forward to hear from you,
Greetings from Portugal!!

Hi!

How much time will you have all in all? I think if you spend some time in Oslo and start your IR pass only when you leave for Malmö/Kobenhavn you should have enough time with a 10in22.

:arr: https://rail.cc/en/oslo-malmo-night-train/f3020 From Malmö to Kobenhavn use the Oresundstag which runs frequently (every 20 min) and requires no supplements

:arr: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/germany/de There is a direct CNL Kobenhavn - München

:arr: Frequent services between München and Wien (every two hours) as well as Wien - Praha and Praha - Berlin. Night train connections also available but that would only make sense (a little) for München - Wien.

:arr: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/germany/de Direct CNL Berlin - Basel

Since you are not fixed on the order of the cities - it would not be a problem to change it schedule-wise since there are good connections between them all. However it might make sense to do it more or less in a circle. Your chosen route will be just fine. :)

How much money you'll need...that depends. ;)
Ticket is 239 plus ~50 for reservations; accommodation, food, drink, culture etc ~30-50 a day depending on you. Watch out, Scandinavia will be more expensive!! One beer in Malmö ~6€ in Copenhagen ~8€...no joke :|

Yeah, we were thinking about a 10in22 also.

The 50 you've pointed for the reservations it's the sleepovers on the night trains, right?

Thank you for the amazing help!
Hope you enjoy Portugal. Are you comming by train? Our rail service is pretty bad, beware.

If you need any help or information about Portugal fell free to ask, we'd be very glad to help you!

Greetings!

Indeed, the 50€ is for reservations you'll need (can be more or less depending on what kind of accomodation you choose: seat - couchette - sleeper).

Have a look here for detailed information on the supplements: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation

Yeah, I'm going by train (InterRail of course). ;) Probably staying in Lisboa for a couple of days (been to Porto in 2008), possibly a day trip to Tomar and hopefully making some nice photos. :D
