Helloo!
just looking for some opinions here-
weve read a few reports and some people seem to think getting flights is cheaper than buying an interRail ticket and is more safer in a way that your booking on that plane is secure where as some trains mess interRail travellers about.
just wondering if anyone has any experience or advice for us as we plan to be travelling around the main cities in western europe next year and do some greek island hopping, is it worthwhile buying an interrail ticket or should we stick to flying?
any help would be greatly appreciated!
thanks,
Anna and Emma :)

Hi Anna and Emma ...

MY opinion ... and I travel a lot around Europe, also using sometimes as well a plane or a car or a bus ...
But for a travel trough Europe, the best and safest way is by train!!

It is much more ecological by train - better for the nature!!

It is flexible - you are free - you easily reach as well smaller places, not only the big cities where the cheap airlines fly to.
Keep in mind that the airports are always outside of the cities - you always have to pay and need time to reach the centres. Railway stations are always in the centres of the cities.
As well it is not interesting to see only the sky over Europe, fly to one city, fly to the next - and don't get the feeling of the distances, see the nature changing when crossing countries.
The people traveling by trains are different - you easily get into contact to other travelers.

Concerning the prices... I know it looks nice... a flight from London to Barcelona for only EUR/GBP 10 ... but this is not the reality. You are fixed on dates, times - and if the airline cancels one of the flights - bad luck - you have to get an other one for a realistic price of EUR/GBP 100 ....
If you travel by train - you simply decide if the weather is fine or not, if you meet nice people, if you found a cool bar ... stay one more day - or to leave.

This is only a short description of my experieneces I got from more than 10 years of traveling trough Europe. :)

I can just second the things Peter said - traveling by train through Europe is such a unique experience that can't be compared to flying from city to city.
