When do you prefer to travel?

If night trains exist are they the better option as it cuts down on accommodation costs and allows more time to see each place city.

Or are day trains better as you can enjoy the journey and get to see more of the countries that you are traveling through and also means that you can stay in a more comfortable hostel?

I looked to see if this has been discussed previously but couldn't find anything.

Depends on the route and route length. If i was travelling through the alps or for less than 6 or 7 hours for example id rather do it during the day, otherwise night trains are great for all the reasons you mentioned. If you get a couchette you should be able to get a reasonable amount of sleep

Thanks, that's good advice. About half of the proposed journeys are over 7 hours.
