I would like to travel to Berlin by train early December 2009. As I will be travelling from Durham in the North East of England I believe I have a couple of choices:
1) Ferry from Newcastle to Amsterdam, then train direct from Amsterdam direct to Berlin.
2) Eurostar from London to Paris or Brussels, then train ideally direct to Berlin but may have to change at Koln, ideally I would like to travel direct to Berlin form either Paris or Brussels.

I dont mind a bumpy North Sea crossing but if seas are rough as they can be in December I can not afford to be delayed, through delayed ferry crossings or worse still cancellations.

Any ideas please? with few changes as possible.

Thanks
Mark

Hi ...

I think the option Newcastle - Amsterdam by ferry and then by night train CNL to Berlin is the best option.
You can already buy a single ticket or a reservation for the night train online - so you are sure to have your bed:
https://rail.cc/en/train/amsterdam-to-berlin
On the ferry you won't get a discount with InterRail.

The solution London - Paris by Eurostar: https://rail.cc/en/train/london-to-paris
then continue by ICE to Frankfurt: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/france/fr
change to a free ICE train to Berlin is the faster solution.
But maybe as well more expensive concerning supplements.

As well possible: Eurostar London - Paris, then CNL night train Paris - Berlin:

Peter,

Thank you for your advice and prompt response, the ferry is very tempting, fingers crossed the North Sea will not be to rough.

Regards,

Mark
