I'd like to visit Serbia, Bosnia etc. Apparently some of these guys have been condemned for crimes against humanity. What is seriously the attitude of locals and authorities to visitors ? Are they considered as potential spies ? ( no joke).

The former yugoslavia is one of the safest regions I have travelled in. Everyone we met was really friendly, and we had no problems. There is no hostile attitude to foreigners, all of the hostilities during the wars were between themselves.

There is still some tension (especially in Bosnia) but it is all very low level and nothing that would involve a foreigner. Basically if you are respectful to peoples views and realise that these people have been through some pretty tough times then you will have an interesting and very rewarding time.

I have never been considered a spy (!)
