Hi there

I am in the process of booking a train from Lisbon to Paris in mid September. The cost for my wife and I is 400 euros. Is this reasonable? I realize it's a long train ride (20 hours) but it still seems excessive. Any help/recommendations would be highly appreciated.

Thats probably the full price fare + a sleeper suppliment + rail europes charge.

Unfortunately the most direct route is via an expensive train hotel, although im sure you should be able to get it cheaper than that. Try splitting the route at the border, to see if you can get any cheap advance fares

Like Simon recommended ...
Split your route up in the connection PARIS - IRUN by TGV.
And then by direct night train from IRUN to LISBON.
You can get good deals...
For Paris - Irun check: [ux]https://rail.shop/omio[/ux]

If you want to travel by InterRail, do it by an InterRail Global Pass - 5 in 10 days, or 10 days in 22. Depends if you want to stay in Lisbon only for 2 days or longer and return by train as well.

I recommend to use a sleeper compartment for the night train Irun-Lisbon as you then can lock it. As smaller, as better.
