Hi
I have been on this train last week and i reserved in Germany for 6 bed couchettes for 13,40€.
But in Belgrad there was no rail car with my number or even with couchettes, because the train consisted of one sleeping car and one seat car. :o
But i could get a place in a triple sleeper for only 10 €. (both prices with IR)
And also i was told at the counter that the reservations (for this train) are only the half in Belgrad compared to Germany.
So maybe you should get your reservation rather here.

Thank you for this update. :)
I added it to the top of this topic.
It is also possible that you only had bad luck - as I also had situations in Eastern Europe where one car was missing.
Reasons are often old cars having technical problems and it was not possible to replace them - or train delays: it sometimes happens on the route Vienna-Budapest-Sofia. If the night train coming from Sofia to Vienna is in delay, the sleeper car is detached in Budapest. So you have to use a seat in a normal car from Vienna to Budapest where you get in your sleeper waiting there.
But I like such situations - that's InterRail. :)

Hi
I'm planning to take this night train in July and wondered how busy it would be to book?
I get into Belgrade 3 days before I plan to take the train so should I wait to book it then to get the cheaper prices or book early (before i get into the country) and pay the higher costs?
P.S I'm a bit new to all this interrailing stuff
thanks in advance

Humm...I'd say it is worth to wait until you are in Beograd and get the reservations there. Where are you before Beograd?

we are travelling from Budapest to Beograd could I reserve the train there?
I wouldn't be worrying but I keep coming across all this stuff about how busy trains are over July and August and I don't want that to mess up my plans!!
thanks for the advice.

I have just taken this train.
Sleeping couchettes do not exist and have not been there for 6 months according to info at Belgrade station. The German railways DB are not informed and will still sell you useless reservations. The train was packed with people on seats, many with this problem and very angry at the system. This night train is full of cigaratte smugglers, they stuff the ceilings and walls with cigarette packets wrapped up in duct tape, it was very bizarre and suspicious, you have no idea who is involved and who is not. If you are taking this train, good luck !

the trains are also-most times-heavily delayed, as is about any long-dist. train wherever in Serbije.
This country-once the core of the proud big Jugoslavia with workers self-ruling and having a good and well kept train system-long time ago-has fallen on hard times and is simply living hand by mouth by whatever they have able to run at that day. Thats one of those joys of Interrailing-getting to skindeep contact with other customs and make do elsewhere.
The ticket as such-again only if bought at either end-is about 15 or 19 eur-in the local money, plus any surcharges for bedding. For about the sme money you shopuld be able to find buses doing the same route-from adjacent BAS and much more likely to run ontime.
