hi ...
you have to travel from Perpignan to Villefranche then to La Tour de Carol (this is the route of le petit train jaune).
from there you can go down to Barcelona - until autumn 2009 there is only a free bus connection available as the rail tracks on the Spanish side are renewed.
read here for schedules and ...

hi... no problem to ask... :)

YES... this is the Petit Train Jaune ... there are no other trains on this route as it is a special small track.
Try to be there early, put your backpacks under the seats - you will get seats, you can't buy reservations for it as it's status is regional train. But the best way is to go downhill starting from La Tour de Carol with the first train in the morning.
The train is FREE with InterRail as it is an official SNCF (French railway company) train.

I will be looking to go from Barcelona to Le Tour De Carol to use petit train jaune around October 10th. From the timetable, the bus from Barcelona takes 4 hours to get to La Tour De Carol. Thats a long time, especially when we will be just getting on the train then. Any idea when the work is supposed to be completed? Also, we will be looking to stay overnight somewhere between Barcelona and Nice after riding the petit train jaune, any cool suggestions?

Thanks! :)

hi ...
the official says the track work will be done in October - but you never know. ||
but it doesn't matter if you travel by bus or the train from Barcelona to La Tour de Carol - as the train is a regional one - so you will need as well 3-4 hours.
a good place to stay and to meet other travellers is in Nice: https://rail.cc/en/nice/accommodation/c
but you have as well a lot of small towns along the coast with a lot of camp sites...
just use the Regional train from Perpignan to Nice - it stops nearly everywhere.
