Me and my cousin are both travelling round Europe using the One Month Continuous travel pass, and are under 26 years of age.

We are flying out to Amsterdam on the 19th August 09 and returning to England on the 23rd September, also from Amsterdam.

When would you recommend starting the Interrail pass if we intended to spend a few days in Amsterdam either side of the one month pass limit?

Any help will be greatly greatly greatly appreciated :)

hej hej ... :)

it's the best way you do it to leave the UK on a cheap way - and to save as well some travel days.
I recommend to stay at least 2-3 nights in Amsterdam to get a feeling of this city.
so if you fly on the 19th to Amsterdam ,buy a normal train ticket from the airport to the city: EUR 3,80 one-way per person

on your way back use your ticket if it is still valid: https://rail.cc/en/amsterdam-airport-schiphol-train-station/f3285

or change it and start your tour immediately from Amsterdam and stay some days on your way back to the UK.

arriving the 19th in Amsterdam, staying there 3 nights, so your InterRail pass should start the 22th (at 0001h in the morning) - it is valid then until the 21th (at 2359h at night) ... so two more night sin Amsterdam... mix it like you want.

remember: if you know when to start and end in Amsterdam, book your hostel in advance to get a cheap and good one. either via [ux]https://rail.shop/hostelworld[/ux]

and if you like this website and forum and want to support it, buy your official InterRail passes via [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux]
the delivery is in the UK by secure mail and 24h-express-delivery...

have fun and all the best, Peter :)

Thank you soooooooo much. That is really helpful.

We were hoping to go to as many places as possible within the timeframe, and a possible route is Amsterdam -> Brussels or staright to Paris -> Barcelona (my cousin really wants to go there) -> French Riviera -> Italy (Rome/Venice etc) -> Croatia -> Serbia -> Hungary -> Austria -> Germany -> Amsterdam :o

This to me seems a little unlikely as there are just too many places to visit, what wouls you recommend?

:P

mmh... so it's the big round ... :)
you can do it ... it's a good plan ... but always keep in mind: the big cities like Paris, Barcelona and so on are expensive.
have a look at the country topics of the forum where you will find a lot of information for city-to-city connections such as for example Amsterdam-Brussels (take a free IC train, not the expensive THALYS!!!), Brussels to Paris ( https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/thalys/41 ), Paris to Barcelona ( https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/france/fr ), and so on ...

if you see after a while it is to expensive in Western Europe, hurry up and travel to the East. :)
I definitely recommend Slovenia with Ljubljana, then Croatia - go to the coast, there are cheap bus connections.
Serbia also interessting ... then think about Budapest (Hungary), if you have the time visit the Black Sea at Varna. you can built a good route ... Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary... use the route planer ( https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route ) (and the country topics of this forum for night trains)...

on your way back visit VIENNA (Austria), KRAKOW (Poland), if you have the time: PRAGUE ... and then of course BERLIN ... from there go back to Amsterdam ( https://rail.cc/en/berlin-amsterdam-train/f2407 )

you see: it is a lot to explore ... have a rough route ... and if you run out of time, skip some places ... and visit them next year. :)
use google maps to get an overview and then the rout planer to find connections between the cities and then the country topics of this forum to find out details...
Peter :)
