Spain > France > Italy - route suggestions?

Hi, :P

Planning on doing my first interrail trip next summer using the 1 month global pass for Spain, France and Italy, and maybe on to Greece (would this be realistic for a month?)
Was wondering if anyone had done these countries or similar and some possible routes..
The cities we definitely want to visit are Paris, Venice, Florence and Rome but any other suggestions would be welcome!

For people who have already done a similar route I was also wondering the average cost of the journey, not including the pass. We would be staying in hostels and probably a few overnight trains.
