Hey everyone, urgent help needed. So far our interrail trip has been nothing but unhelpful staff and stress... I am losing my mind!
We have arrived in Vienna this morning and are off to find our Hostel in a bit, that´s all fine... but we´re looking for trains to Praha that aren´t going to cost us a massive amount of money. We are trying to avoid night trains, as we are not huge fans of them, and are trying to spend as much time on the day travelling, with minimal waiting around. So far our trip seems to have been spent in train stations, struggling to book trains and then waiting for the next one.
We found this train to Praha-
Wien Sudbhanhof 12:58
Praha Holesovice 17:29.
It says we need a reservation, but we are doubtful as to how helpful the staff can be. When we tried to book a night train to Praha on arrival, we were told the first leg to Bratislava was reservation free... and that she couldn´t book the sleeper part to Praha from Bratislava. I know that´s NOT true, but what can I do?
Also, we want to then travel to Amsterdam, but all the trains are VERY expensive. There appears to be a problem when it comes to crossing borders.
Can anyone suggest any trains, with cheap supplements, or without any that can get us to Amsterdam departing Praha on 30th??
Sorry its soo long, but I need help badly before I give up and just go home!

Well, although it might technically be possible (although it might not) there may be some kind of policy where they wont sell the tickets to speed up their service or something.
I dont really understand your complaint about seeing train stations - if you insist on travelling long distances during the day all you are going to see it train station, train, train station, hostel. Thats whats so great about night trains (and theyre cheaper too, you pay maybe €20, instead of €20 for a hostel and €5 for the reservation fee)
The train is an EC, and is a €7 reservation. There is no reason why you cant buy this in Vienna. I found the staff at Vienna Haptbahnhof reasonably good, although they werent prepared to make reservations for trains that didnt start in Austria.
The easiest way to go Prague Amsterdam is by the direct CNL night train, although this would take up 2 days on your pass. Alternatevly, you can travel via Berlin, leaving at 0840 on a free (I think) EC, then free IC to Amsterdam
