Hi, we are going interrailing for the first time in August and we would like some tips about whether our route sounds doable. We are going to fly to Paris before our ticket starts, we plan to spend a couple of days there and then take the train to Geneva, Switzerland, we were going to spend a day or two there, and then from there head to Milan, where we were going to spend 2 weeks travelling Italy, we were planning on going Pisa, Rome, Naples, and then take the ferry to Greece and spend a couple of days in Athens. From there we were going to head to Zagreb, Croatia and spend two days there, and then head back into Italy to see Venice and from there go to Munich and Berlin. We were then going to go to Brussels and back to France to fly home to the UK.

We wanted to know whether our route sounds too much or anything we are missing. We are getting a global pass for 30days. We have budgeted for £1500 after purchasing our tickets, does this sound like enough money? We would also like to know whether we can use our ticket on any train or does it have to be particular trains? Also does anyone knoe where we have to get the ferry from? We also would like to go to Aushwitz for the day, how would we go about going there for a day?

Also, could you suggest what we do about booking night trains, would we need them for any of our trips. Do you just turn up at the train station or do you pre-book in advance same as with hostels?

Thanks for your time, we would really appreciate it if you could get back to us. We will buy you a beer if we ever see you, lol please help!!!! :|

Hi

It sounds like a nice trip, lots of travelling but it sounds doable in a month. To check train times, have a look here:
https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route

Most of it seems pretty simple, and most of the supplements you need are on the website, in the relevant country forums or on the website (for example: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/france/fr for the TGV to Switzerland supplement (€5)

Read here about the ferry from Italy to Greece:
https://rail.cc/en/interrail-ferry/italy/it

The budget sounds about right, given that you are spending quite a while in western Europe, which is quite expensive.

Night trains, if you want to take any, and any supplements that need to be paid can be booked at any main train station in Europe. For example you can pay for the TGV supplement in Paris.

Auschwitz: https://rail.cc/en/auschwitz-train/f2364 however you might find that you run out of time to do this.

The most difficult connection is getting from Greece to Croatia. You could go through Albania and Montenegro, but this involves a bit of initiative and flexibility, there are no trains and so buses and taxis are needed. Otherwise you can go up though Macedonia into Serbia, and then up to Zagreb. This is 2 night trains I think.

The ticket is valid on all trains but some (fast ones, overnight ones etc require a supplement. More information in the forums and on the website.
Now, that beer...
