3 of us leave in August with 1 month global pass, the only thing thats decided for definite is we fly to Dusseldorf on the 2nd, stay for 2 nights and hope to be in amsterdam for the end of august to fly home(only managed to get 4 weeks off work)!

We roughly mapped out a route which is very open to change, but don't want to get too tied down to dates etc since its a one off trip.

Dusseldorf
Berlin
Krakow
Prague
Salzburg
Switzerland, possibly Interlaken (any other sugestions, we only decided interlaken because we seen pics of the alps views etc)
Italy, possibly Milan or Venice
France, Possibly Paris or catching a beach for a few days in south of france
Amsterdam
Home (Edinburgh)

I make that 9 stops in 28 days!

Has anyone done a similar route or are we being to ambitious?
Also after reading other advise on here, we planned to book hostels a couple of days in advance from the city before! Good idea in August or will it be too busy to do this? Should we take a back up tent?

Also, how much should we be looking at keeping aside for supplements based on this route? Hopefully will not be anything more than 100EUR max??

Many thanks

Rory

hi Rory...
if you are in Düsseldorf, have a look at Cologne - it is very very close and well known for its night life.
in Switzerland definitely go to Zurich.
from Prague you can also go to Vienna, then to Salzburg... and at the French coast, Nice is nice. :)
if you want to spent some days at the coast of Southern France, a tent is useful.
for the big cities go to hostels. easy and cheap.
book the hostels some days (or at least 1-2 days) in advance. then you know the place where to go when you arrive - you will save a lot of time searching!!
if you have time... you can also add Budapest and Ljubljana (Slovenia) to your route...
I hope this will help you a bit planing your tour.
Peter :)

Thanks Peter.

Do you have a rough idea on how much to set aside for supplements?
20 Euros? 200 Euros?

Thanks,
Rory

mmmh... hard to say. it always depends which route and trains you will take. you can do you complete tour without any supplements - it will be slower, but it is definitely possible.
so just check the trains/routes you will travel and then we can calculate. :)
