Im looking to take some camera equipment with me around Eastern Europe and wondered about general safety.
The equipment in question is a canon 5D, which is quite a large professional camera. Im an experienced traveller, however this will be the first time taking this camera with me and im slightly nervous that it will attract unwanted attention (normally I travel with something smaller).
Has anyone else taken anything similar with them and how did they get on?
Obviously I won't be walking around with it hanging from my neck, and I will try to flash it about as little as possible.

I'm always traveling with my Nikon D80 or D100 with two lenses without any troubles - keeping the camera close to the body, with the strap around my wrist.
I dont think that it's more dangerous in Eastern Europe than somewhere else as long as you dont go to obviously shady places - but that applies to Western Europe too.
Btw since I'm on the verge of purchasing D700, I'll probably have the same problem as you this summer since this is one step aove the D80... ;)

... never had any problems - and I join the experience of Flow ... it is the same if you are in Western or Eastern Europe. :) and I only have a small canon 450D ... ;)

awesome, thats eased some nerves! I'll also be taking an old pentax k1000 along so i'll have that out most of the time, with the digital for the shots that cant be missed. now is just the question of packing :|
