COPENHAGEN (København) - Khttps://rail.cc/en/night-train/sweden/seING - KÖLN - DÜSSELDORF - UTRECHT - AMSTERDAM | night train | CNL 40483 Borealis
How to buy point to point train tickets for the night train. Information for Interrail and Eurail pass travelers. Route from Copenhagen (Denmark) to Amsterdam (Netherlands).

The direct CNL night train connection from Copenhagen to Amsterdam was sadly withdrawn in December 2014. Now you have to travel by day trains, usually with two changes.

:arr: How to buy the tickets for this connection:
First buy a train ticket from Copenhagen to Hamburg on [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux]
Then buy a second train ticket for Hamburg to Amsterdam, as well on [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux]

Interrail and Eurail pass travellers travel for free on this route. In peak travel time (Friday and Sunday - and in the summer months) it is recommended to buy a reservation for the Copenhagen-Hamburg train for EUR 4,50, as the train might be very full.

Wondering if you could help me. I see that you can only book online for the rail pass rate if your journey starts or ends in Germany. I am looking to go from Copenhagen to Amsterdam leaving on 26 July, so that obviously doesn't apply.

However, I note that some of the trains are filling up with seats fully booked for this train already (over a month in advance). I can wait until I get to Germany and book at a station but that won't be until mid July and the train may be full by then. What would happen if I booked a couchette ticket from Copenhagen to Koln and then also booked another couchette ticket from Koln to Amsterdam, leaving Koln at 6:14 i.e. on the exact same train. Would I get away with this? :)

Hi!

Umm...aint gonna work since all stops after Hamburg (at 0031) are to set down only. So you wont be able to get neither a ticket nor a reservation for Köln - Amsterdam on that train. However, what you could do is to book your reservation to Oberhausen and either leave the train there and catch the free ICE train to Amsterdam running one hour later or just stay on board for the rest of the trip. Since in the morning all stops are to set down only nobody is gonna claim your seat/couchette. And since you have a valid ticket (InterRail) and there is no price difference between a reservation to Oberhausen or Amsterdam also the conductor should be fine with that - and they usually only check the tickets in the evening when the train picks up only. :)

Hi Helge!

For information on how to book CNL trains online, just follow the link (bottom of the page): https://rail.cc/en/night-train/germany/de

And dont forget that at least departure or arrival have to be in Germany, so you cant get a Kobenhavn - Amsterdam reservation online. How to work round this problem is described just one post above yours. ;)

By Oberhausen, did you mean Duisburg?:) It doesn't seem to stop at Oberhausen...

Hey! 8)

I was thinking to take this train, but i don't really want to make any reservations and pay any supplements- but if I won't have other chance than i will. Is this train really fully booked months before? I was thinking to reservate this train, when i come to Copenhagen. Stay in Copenhagen for 3days and then go to Amsterdam with this train.
Anyway, what are the best alternatives to reach Amsterdam without supplements? Oh..and i don't want to come in Amsterdam in late hours (don't want to search a place to sleep at 00.00 :) )

Cheers! :D

Hi.
Have a look at the train connections.
Here you will find the night train (which I recommend - as you save at the same time the money for a hostel) and a free day train:
