Hi I'm travelling from Vienna to Istanbul in july/august for just under 4 weeks and I plan to visit Austria, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Greece (if enough time) and finally Istanbul. I don't really want to plan too much in advance in case I decide not to visit a particular place.
Firstly, is it best/cheaper to use interrail or buy individual train/bus tickets from destination to destination assuming I use the 10 days in 22 days deal? Which other countries in the region do you recommend I visit? Will I have time to visit all these different places? Thanks for the help.

hi ...
on such long distances, it is definitely cheaper using the 10 in 22. :)
and do not forget: you have the discounts on night trains traveling by InterRail.
Peter :)

Hi Chuck. I'm from Turkey, and I will do the same thing in the opposite region; western europe. If you're going to travel eastern europe, visiting istanbul is definetely a must . And I agree with peter, you need to get interrail. Normal train tickets are not so cheap here. I recommend you visit Princes' Islands if you come to Istanbul.

What he said ^

Yeah, for international journeys in Eastern Europe its worth it, its only the local trains that are dirt cheap
