Hi,

I'm planning to go on an Interrail trip from late July to beginning September. The idea of being spontaneous and being able to get of and when and where you want sounds great fun. But I have a few questions:

1. As I will be travelling in August, and mostly in the big cities, (Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Madrid, Barcelona, London,...) should I book my hostel in advance, if yes, how long in advance would you recommend ?! I really would like to enjoy the cities, and noT hustle around in search of a hostel room :)

2. I have been thinking about taking low cost flights between major cities. Like Berlin-Paris, Paris-London, London-Barcelona,...because spending a night in a couchette on a train, doesn't sound very fun. What do you think about the idea of taking planes?

3. How much extra money for train supplements/reservations should I calculate.

greetings

1.) Try to book the hostel for the next town you're going when you arrive at the hostel of the city you are currently visiting. However, if you want/need to stay at a certain date at a certain hostel try to book as early as possible to have your bed for sure. ;)

2.) Crap.
Sorry, but that's not quite the idea of InterRailing. I understand if someone flies to the starting point of from the last city back home but making all the trips between the cities by plane doesn't really make sense when having an InterRail ticket.
Apart from the ecological point of view the InterRail pass certainly wouldn't buy out if you didn't use it for long distances.

3.)

Also, spending a night in a couchette is fun, you meet all kinds of people and save on the cost of a hostel!
