Hello,
I am 20 yrs and planning my interrail route in july.
I d like to get the 30 days global pass.
My first idea of a route ist fly to barcelona and then:
Barcelona - Valencia- Madrid - Lisboa - Porto - Bilbao - Firenze - Athen - Sofia - Budapest - Vienna - Salzburg
Here a Link to Google Maps: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=barcelona&daddr=valencia+to:madrid+to:lissabon+to:Porto,+Portugal+to:bilbao+to:firenze+to:athen+to:Sofia,+Bulgarien+to:Wien,+%C3%96sterreich+to:Budapest,+Ungarn+to:salzburg,+austria&geocode=%3B%3B%3B%3B%3B%3B%3B%3BFbGDiwIdKt5jAQ%3B%3BFabE1AId9okiAQ%3B&hl=de&mra=ls&sll=43.07274,7.33836&sspn=21.325692,39.550781&ie=UTF8&z=5
Feel free to add your ideas & suggestions ;)
I m open minded for every suggestion / idea.
Between Italy and Greece I think I'll have the ferry.
Is this route possible?
Which other stations would you recommend?
Or tips to the existing idea?
Just right now is nothing fixed, you can give me an idea and I can use it in my drawing.
I want to have some beach-days between the stations.
I will -so far - travel alone if you are interested in joining me, pm me ;)
Regards Fabian

If you have time I'd recommend to start the pass only when you're leaving Barcelona for Valencia. That would leave you more time for the rest of the trip.
For Madrid to Lisboa I wouldn't recommend going via Badajoz as there is no railway connection there. ;)
In Lisboa go to Belem (and have some Pasteis there) by train, have a ride with the old tramways and stroll around the old town - very beautiful!
Porto...I think two days will be sufficient there, although it is nice...
Porto to Bilbao...gotta take the Sud Espresso. :P Prepare for eight seats in a compartment or pay more for the comfort of a couchette.
Note: As the two night trains Madrid/Irun - Lisboa are the only direct rail connections to Portugal (apart from the two trains at the Tui border crossing in the north, but you wont get sensible connection in the direction of Bilbao and France there) try to book early. Shouldnt be a problem at Salzburg Hbf (if the guys in Graz could work it out). ;)
Bilbao/Hendaye - Firenze: There is a direct night train Hendaye - Nice but only at weekends, it also might be full already, ask at the station asap. At nice you could change to Genoa and then Firenze (go along the coast via Pisa, scenic route!)
An alternative would be the night train (Nantes -) Bordeaux - Nice. If you dont get a place on these trains you'd have to make a stop somewhere in between like Marseille, Nice etc
Nice stops along this part would be the Dune de Pyla near Arcachon or the Petit Train Jaune in the Pyrenées, where you could go from Toulouse.
For south-eastern Europe I cant really give any hints...

Ah, sorry. Well, I guess they should be able to make the reservations at the Hauptbahnhof.
You could stop at the beach in San Sebastian, Biarritz, the mentioned Dune the Pyla/Arcachon and along the cote d'azur, but pay attention to not lose too much time.
