I'm an American who will be studying in the UK this upcoming academic year, and I was hoping to buy an Interrail pass for mid- to late March 2010. However, my question is in regards to the six-month requirement. Does the six-month period begin the date I actually enter the UK for the first time or the date my visa first becomes valid? I ask because I'm quite certain I won't be arriving until around September 30, but I imagine they may make the visa valid at least a couple weeks earlier than that. Ideally, I'd like to purchase my pass (once I am able to, I mean) to begin on March 15, but I'm wondering if I'd have to delay the start of my trip until March 30.

Thanks in advance...

mmmh... I can't give you the perfect answer:
but it is always this way: the staff checking your InterRail ticket has to understand that you stayed at least 6 months in Europe (in your case the UK) on the first day your ticket is valid... so... normally the rule says you need a residency permit or a visa...
so your visa should be proof enough ... but no guarantee on this answer.

Thanks; I'll ask about it when I purchase my ticket.
