BRUXELLES MIDI station - over night stay
It is allowed to stay over night (and sleep somewhere) at the station of Bruxelles Midi - you only need a long-distance-ticket (which is InterRail).
The station is open the whole night - for a station it is safe - but always have attention on your back pack!
Sometimes the staff will check your ticket if you stay there during the night.

Cool, didn't know that. Once, I had to take the very last train leaving there, and I must say, it was very empty, but there were indeed staff patrolling and asking the few people what their plans were. I suppose it should indeed be safe to sleep there.

I thought that every station was open at night..
Anyway, do you know if there's something like a camping or a cheap hostel close to these station ? Or else in the town.. ?
Thanks :)

well, I found 2 youth hostels : Génération Europe and Jacques Brel ; and a campsite : Bruxelles Europe à ciel ouvert.
Do you ever tried them ? Is the youth hostel card necessary or not ? And do you think there will be any places left in the campsite the 6th august ?..
And if you know something else, please let me know ! :)

Soo.. I know it was said here previously that it's ok to stay in Bruxelles Midi overnight, BUT is it really so for a girl travelling alone? Actually I would have done it prolly without any doubts if my friends from Belgium hadn't started to be extremely worried after we discover that my train leaves from midi 5:40 and the latest train taking me to this station arrives there at 0:40. So basically 5 hours in the station in the middle of the night alone : / We also cannot see any other options what-so-ever, cuz even going to hostel means that i need to walk alone in Brussels around 5 am, which i think is even worse as the taxi is simply too expensive for me)
Any opinions? Suggestions? Should it still be ok?

Mmmh. Hard to say.
I always felt save like you can feel at a station at night.
Maybe just join some other travelers?!
That's all I can say... :)

I have just registered in order to reply to this - please, on no account, sleep in Brussels Midi station. Especially not as a single woman. I live in Brussels. I avoid the Gare du Midi late in the evening, even as a place to go through. If I must arrive at, say, 11pm, I walk through as fast as possible, holding onto my stuff, and get a taxi. Even if finances are tough, you should not consider sleeping there. The only exception, perhaps, would be for a reasonable sized group of men, willing to really rough it.
Everyone else - find a youth hostel! And try to stay where there are other people.

IF you want to save money/agree with above, avoid this gare°station at all cost.
There IS a better alternative/also think of that in other towns/the AIRPORT/just 15 mins away by train/free with your pass. Last train around midnight/first back around 5.30.
also check the reviews in sleepinginairports.net. it also has some trainstations in it. You could also do that same ttrick in many other cities with airports/many have now direct trains.

The Bruxelles airport trains have a surcharge of about 2,30€ for every trains and every ticket.
