Is there a night train from Innsbruck to Venice???
Or any other route that maximises night trains so as not to waste days!

just use the train schedule planer: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
search for your night train - then go to the country topics of the forum and check for the supplements for beds/seats :)

Probably around €15-20 for a couchette, the only way to find out for sure is to ask at a train station

Thanks.Does that include the supplement? Can I find that out in Britain or do I need to do that once in Vienna?

€15-20 is the suppliment, that is assuming you already have an IR ticket. I have no idea what the standard ticket is, but OBB or trenitalia may be able to tell you (if not on their webiste, by ringing them up. It would be easier to buy in Vienna, but you can do it from the UK by phone/at specialist agents

Does the Eurail Austria rail pass cover the night train from Venice/Venezia to Vienna/Wien, even though the journey originates from Italy?
Can I purchase the couchette supplement/reservation at an Italian rail station?
Thank you!

Hi ...
Yes you can buy the supplement for the couchette at an Italian railway station. It is normally no problem to buy supplements/reservations in countries where the train starts or ends.
But an Eurail Austria Pass only covers Austria - it is a single country pass for Austria.
Maybe have a look at the website of the Italian national railway company Trenitalia. Sometimes they have limited special offers - but book early (up to 2 months in advance) and you are fixed then on a date.

Thank you for the quick reply!
So the Eurail Austria Pass does not cover the portion of the fare that is not in Italy, even though the train is Austrian? I plan to make a journey from Venice to Salzburg, Linz, Vienna, and finally to Bratislava two weeks from now. Should I buy a Eurail pass or a Einfach-Raus-Ticket?
Thank you!

That is correct.

The train is jointly operated by TI and ÖBB (the railway companies of Italy and Austria)..with Eurail Austria Pass you would need a regular ticket Venice - Tarvisio Boscoverde (border station).

The Einfach-Raus-Ticket is only vaild one day (09am-03am [next day] on weekdays, 00am-03am [next day] on weekends) for groups from two to five persons and covers only regional trains (no D, IC, EC, ICE, RJ, EN). I'd think you'd be better of with a Eurail pass.
When traveling to Bratislava you can travel up to Bratislava Petrzalka with an ÖBB ticket - that's a suburb station in the south of the city, connected to the city with buses. The other station is Hlavni stanica (main station), you would then need an extra ticket Marchegg - Bratislava (cheap!).

Thank you for the detailed information!
After learning that the Eurail Austria Pass does not cover the Italian portion of the journey, point-to-point tickets with the VorteilsCard <26 are less expensive for my trip. Would you recommend that I buy a ticket from Vienna directly to Bratislava Hlavni stanica or change at Marchegg?
Can the Einfach-Raus-Ticket be used by just one person? Using the regional trains would add around two hours but save €20...
Thanks again!

Take a train Wien Süd (Ost) to Bratislava hl st (via Marchegg) and buy a through ticket at Vienna. There should be cheap fares available, ie EURegio tickets for ~14€ a return.

I have been playing with the Oebb route planner and found that I can book a ticket from Salzburg to Marchegg with stopovers in Linz and Vienna for less than the cost of four separate tickets. If I purchase such a ticket, can I take any train along the route at any time during the day, or am I limited to the specified times?
Also, the Oebb Online-Ticket website does not allow me to purchase a ticket from Salzburg directly to Bratislava with the stopovers mentioned. Will I be able to do that at the Salzburg train station? Will the prices be similar to those on the Oebb Online-Ticket website?
Thank you Flo for all your contributions!

I purchased a day ticket from the Salzburg ticket office from Salzburg to Bratislava that allows stopovers en-route (Linz and Vienna) for only €39! The same ticket from Salzburg to just Vienna costs €48! The only caveat is the full VorteilsCard discount does not apply to the international trip.
Thank you Flo for your information!
