Hi, we are planning an interrail trip this summer, most of it in Spain. I´ve already read many of the topics at this very useful forum, but I am still not sure about situation regarding paying the supplements on trains in Spain - It seems that almost every train is one of these that are mentioned here as those with supplements. Is that right that between Andalusia cities (mentioned below) goes only trains with supplements?
Another example, arriving to the Irun and heading to San Sebastian - do we need to buy ~6E reservation on the train that goes between these two cities (it´s the train that goes to Madrid)? Our another routes (the ones i am not sure about the supplements):
Huelva - Sevilla - Cordoba - Granada - Valencia - Barcelona

Thanks

Between Irun and San-Sebastian you may use Cercania. Local trains, something like german S-bahn

They are free for interrailers.

Have a look at the Cercanias network free of supplements here:

hey guys!

what about the other way, I mean from San Sebastian?
Cercanias run only to Irun, right? How can I get from Irun to Hendaye? (...to get on Corail Lunea to Paris)

or is it better to use a train from San Sebastian straight to Hendaye?

Hi Penny!

Cercanias trains only run to/from Irun. To get to Hendaye you will have to use EuskoTren which operates a large narrow gauge system in this area. InterRail is not valid on EuskoTren but tickets are very cheap, Irun - Hendaye will be 1 or 2 euro...can check later if you want.

The only through trains from San Sebastian to Hendaye are Alvia or other long distance trains which all require a reservation. So it is not advisable. :)

thanks Flo!

that's fine, I can ask at the station...btw, it's the same station, isn't it?

Penny

edit: I've just checked their website to see if they run frequently...don't they run from San Sebastian as well? there's Donostia-San Sebastian on the list but I can't really understand it :os ...can you?

Hej,

in Donostia/San Sebastian (basque/spanish) the RENFE and EuskoTren stations are not at the same place! RENFE station (for Cercanias to Irun) is at Paseo de Francia, EuskoTren station is at Plaza Easo.

A ticket Donostia - Hendaye for EuskoTren is 1,60€, travel time 38min, frequency half hourly (at xx15 and xx45)

The ticket Irun - Hendaye is 1,40€, travel time 4min, frequency of course also half hourly.

You see it is not really a difference so it probably is more convenient to go with EuskoTren directly from Donostia. The Cercanias services are faster, but you probably would lose most of this time when changing in Irun and waiting for the EukoTren service.
