Hello,
My friends and i live in France and are using the interrail passes this summer. We have a few questions regarding night trains, especially in Italy. We want to arrive in ventimiglia stazione and then take a night train to venice directly. However we don't know how to reserve for the night train. Firstly do we even have to reserve? Secondly if so, how do we do it online when the Italian web site does not have an option to show we have the interail passes? (neither does the french one (interrail, city-to-city passes); there's a technical problem with the website). So the only way to reserve would be in ventimiglia once we are already in italy. Is this ok?
Thanks for the help,
AUR

You should be able to make the reservations in advance at any (larger) SNCF station.
However I dont know any night train Ventimiglia - Venezia. There has been the Monte Carlo Nice - Venezia but it has been withdrawn if I'm not mistaken.
There is a Paris - Venezia night train but if you're coming from southern part of France the best way would be a day train from Nice or Ventimiglia.

Thanks for your help!
The problem is that they don't sell Italian tickets in France, so we won't be able to reserve a head of time. We will only be able to get the tickets once we're in Italy which will be hours before we even take the train. Will this be a problem?

This is something that's bothering me too, I arrive and leave on the same day in several stops, I really don't cherish the idea of not getting in a train because it's full... Can someone clarify on this matter? Thank you.

Try this out:

However, you can make reservations at larger stations even in other countries than the train crosses. Just go and check. :)
