I wanted to ask if it is possible to use INTERRAIL passes for scenic rail journeys in Austria namely Arlberg Route (From Innsbruck to Bludenz) and Semmering Bahn (From Wiener Neustadt to Bruck an der Mur).
Also can I add here that EURAIL PAsses valid for Austria are valid for these journeys.
Thank you

Of course you can use both EURail and InterRail passes on these routes as the trains on both routes are operated by ÖBB (Austrian Federal Railways).
You can find a list of trains running on these routes here in the Austria board.

Other scenic railways would be Gesäusebahn (Selzthal - Kleinreifling, regional trains only), Salzkammergutbahn (Stainach-Irdning, regional trains only) and Tauernbahn (Schwarzach-St. Veit - Spittal-Millstättersee, express trains only).

Thank you Flow so very much for quick reply. It is helpful and also for extra train journeys.
Also reading on forum I understand reservation can be cheaper at station... is it same for InterRail pass or is it true only for reservation?
Can I buy InterRail passe at station or they are only available online and cannot be bought at station?
My journeys are rather fixed from Salzburg to Vienna then Vienna to innsbruck and then from innsbruck to Salzburg, all this interspersed with scenic rail journeys.

You can buy the IR pass at larger stations as well as online. By buying at the webshop here you'll help keeping this forum runnin'. ;)
It is possible to buy reservations online where you normally have to pay an extra fee in addition to the reservation price. Thus it's better to buy them at the train stations; you can buy them at every larger station for basically whole europe. In Austria there's no compulsory reservation (except on international night trains and very few international day trains) and you dont really need a reservation on any route.

If you want to spend the extra money you could upgrade to 1st class for going by trains 162/163 running Vienna - Basel vv via Arlberg. These trains convey a swiss observation car and it's quite nice going through the alps sitting in this special carriage. ;)

Thans low, once again.
Are there no return tickets in Austria like return Salzburg-Vienna-Salzburg which is relatively cheaper than salzburg-Vienna and then back Vienna-Salzburg? Asking this cos I cd not find the link on OBB site to do it!
Thanks for your earlier replies again.

You wont get any discount when buying return tickets in Austria.

However it will be cheaper buying an InterRail one country pass Austria (if you're traveling only here) than buying standard fare tickets: The pass will cost 90€ valif for four days, the standard fare Salzburg - Vienna is 44,20€.

You can find the fares on the website when searching for a connection (typing ie Salzburg and Wien in the white boxes on the top of the homepage, then on Verbindung suchen) when clicking on Ticket und Preise on the page following.
