Hi there,

I'm looking to go to Salzburg or Villach from Italy in July. I will be in North Eastern Italy at the time.

As far as I know, I can go from either Venice or Verona.

1) Are there any other stations on Italy I can go from?

2) Are there any additional charges or supplements I need to know about?

3) Are there any discounted services I could use by booking online before?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks
Calvin :P

Are you going by InterRail or are you going to buy a single ticket only for this route?

There's only on direct night train running from Venezia to Salzburg, you should be able to book tickets online at trenitalia.it; a compartment seat should be available at 29€.

When going from Verona you will have to change at Innsbruck (day or night travel); from Venezia there are three daily connections with changing trains in Villach (plus the mentioned direct night train).

Of course there are many other stations from where you can go to Austria from Italy but all trains will run either via Verona or Venezia.

Hi there,

To be honest I'm just looking for the cheapest way!

I'm planning to arrive in Salzburg on 21st July (AM) and leave the following day (anytime) so I'm not sure if it would be cheaper to buy 2 single tickets or 1 return.

Any information would be great.

Thanks
Calvin

So you want to go from somewhere in Italy (Venice or Verona) to Salzburg and leave the following day back to Italy?

If you don't have any other rail trips planned I guess the best thing to do is to search for special offers at trenitalia.it and öbb.at.
Be careful to not buy a one way ticket Italy - Austria from ÖBB or a ticket Austria - Italy from Trenitalia as the conductors in the relevant other country won't accept it.
Thus, you can either buy a return ticket from Trenitalia or a single ticket to Austria from Trenitalia and a single ticket to Italy from ÖBB or buy the return from Trenitalia. Hope that sounds comprehensible. ;)

There is an offer called SparSchiene from ÖBB for journeys to different European countries, I guess there might be a similar offer from Trenitalia.
