well, as a guy ive stayed in mixed dorms with guys and girls and never had a problem - thats not really what your asking though. If there is a group of you theres nothing really to worry about, though most hostels do have single sex dorms as well
check hostels here, often is written if they offer female only dorms: [ux]https://rail.shop/hostelworld[/ux]

I've stayed in mixed dorms several times (in Britain) and it has never been a problem (I'm female). I've never done it on my own though. I guess it's worse if you are on your own.

I guess my advise if you are alone would be to stay in large rooms (such as 8 or 10 beds per room). If there would be bad guys in your dorm then it's probably better to be in a large room with other people as well than for example in a 4-dorm with two other guys.

But I don't think you have to worry!

my friends and i weren't too sure about mixed dorms and so booked private rooms for every place we were going but due to a mix up with our hostel in Paris we ended up in an 8 bed mixed dorm and had a great time! guys are so much easier to talk to than girls...we were cautious with valuables and things but the guys that shared our room with us were all lovely and it was reassuring to know that there was a guy there if you got into any other trouble. most people are all just travellers doing the same things you are so there are no problems, we had to change hostels for our last night and ended up in a 5 bed female dorm and hated it - it was so awkward!!

if i were to interrail again i would have booked us into more mixed dorms because you meet more and such a range of people. it was nice to have our own space and not to worry too much about the safety aspect but it was fun to hang out with other people and discuss the differences between cultures and the things that you were doing in the city
