Venice to Athens by ferry and train

Hi,

What is the best route and transport to get from Venice to Athens?

I was planning to travel around Italy and then head to Spain but I'm a few days ahead of schedule... so would prefer to get from Venice to Athens ... and then come back to Italy to complete the original trip --> Naples, Rome, Milan and then Barcelona etc...
