I've got the lonely planet guide (I'm using it now) and it seems pretty good to me.

For £15 it is pretty good value considering the information in it.

my opinion: LonelyPlanet and RoughGuides are good ... but only good to get a first impression. to have a little map of the city where you will travel to.
for details (hostel bookings: use the internet) ask at the hostels. they normaly know more good places to party, eat and so on. :)

Our rough route will be:

AMSTERDAM - BERLIN - PRAGUE - BRATISLAVA - HUNGARY... Does that help?

Also, we are going for 16 days and we feel we might want to visit another country (or two). Where else would you suggest going (thats along this route). We need to finish in budapest. Any ideas?

Cheers x

Krakow and Vienna would be nice to add.

for the books have a look on (I would not buy books for single countries as you only stay in the big cities):
Lonely Planet - Central Europe
Lonely Planet -Eastern Europe
Lonely Planet - Western Europe

at the books you will also find some more information and as well places to visit or stop when crossing by train. :)

also interesting and good:
Rough Guides -Europe on a Budget

Hi

I'm going to travel in August. We are going to Rome, Barcelona, Paris, London, Amsterdam and maybe a bit of Germany. I already read a bit about travelguides like LP, Thomas Cook, Rough Guide and Let's go. But i bother because i don't see many Hostels in there.

Do you know a gudie, focused on cheap hostels? Or which one of these is the best concerning hostels?? (and truely cheap travelling)

thx Hogerl :)

Alright,
the point is, i already know these sites, but i'm looking for a guide in term of a book (concerning hostels), to take with me while travelling, in case we want to change the route quickly. and not depending on internetcafes or this kind of stuff

any good advice?

I know, but in my opinion they provide better info than a written guide (sorry, do not know any kind of written hostel guide btw ;) ). However the citites that have hostel you will find information about them probably at the tourist info at the train station (or ask at the regular counter, works out also).

and in most hostels you have free internet access - so just book online the hostel for the next night using one of the above websites or [ux]https://rail.shop/hostelworld[/ux] :)
