Hi. This is probably a stupid question, but I've noticed when looking for hostels that they tend to list a 'check in time' of around early afternoon, 2pm or so. Forgive my ignorance, but does this mean you cannot check in after that time?? Or does it mean the opposite, that you cannot check in before that time? Because I know I will not be reaching some places till the evening.

it means your room wont be ready until then - you will probably still be able to leave your bags there beforehand though.

If youre going to be very late you should probably ring ahead to confirm youre still going

Ah, I see, thanks. So arriving there at, say, 9pm is all right?

should be fine, they would say if not. Most independent hostels have 24h check in

Hi,
I know this is an old thread, but on the same subject, does anyone know if it is common for there to be a check-in time? I was looking into getting night trains to some of my destinations, so I might arrive early in the morning and will probably want to leave some of my stuff before going to look around.
Many thanks :)

hi ...
most hostels (90%) where I stayed had rooms to leave your bag pack or luggage if you arrive early in the morning before their check in time.
