Hi folks,
me and my friends are planning on travelling through Europe somewhere in August. We only have a rough idea of where we wanna go and what we wanna see, but in general the above route is our preference.
Of course it should not only be those cities, but something nice in between as well. I was thinking about maybe Marseille on the way to Rome but it's nothing set in stone.
Anyway the purpose of this topic is mainly to figure out whether or not 22 days are enough for this route and whether it also provides enough time to not just be able to say Yeah, been there but als to have seen the places.
Given the fact that my friends most certainly don't approve of sleeping in a tent every day we would figure something out for the bigger cities. However if anyone can recommend some nice spots to camp outside, maybe on a beach or something, please feel free to post them!
Hope to get many more information on how to have the best possible trip :)
Kind regards,
Max

Briefly the best connections between those cities:
Amsterdam - Paris:
You can either go by fast and direct but expensive Thalys service or with IC and semi-fast trains without supplement but longer travel time.
Detailed information: https://rail.cc/en/train/amsterdam-to-paris
Paris - Barcelona:
By night: There is a fast, but expensive direct night train; you could also go by night train to the french-spanish border and from there on use regional trains to Barcelona.
Detailed information: https://rail.cc/en/train/paris-to-barcelona
By day: Use TGV trains to Montpellier, from where you can either continue with direct Talgo service to Barcelona or use regional trains to the border and continue with regional trains in Spain.
Barcelona - Portugal:
The best way would be going to Madrid and continue there by night train to Lisboa.
Note that there are only to night train services from Spain to Portugal per day, one from Madrid to Lisboa via Encontramento, the other from Irun (french/spanish border at the Atlantic) to Lisboa via Coimbra (for Porto). In addition there are two day trains from Porto to Vigo but there you have not very good connections to the rest of Spain.
Portugal - Rome:
Prepare for a long trip. Fastest and most comfortable (and most expensive) way probably would be going by night train to Madrid, then to Barcelona and from there by night train to Milano, where you could finally change to a train to Rome.
However there are many ways to go, even via Paris. Or you could go by night train to Madrid, then Barcelona and finally to Marseille or Nice where you could spend one or two days and then continue to Rome.
Rome - Amsterdam:
One possible way would be going to Verona, then Munich, where you would take the night train to Amsterdam.
General infos: ;)
How to buy reservations and supplements for European trains: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation
Find TRAIN SCHEDULES for the whole EUROPE: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
Note that there are many trains (most high speed services, night trains etc) which require a supplement/reservation. You can find infos about such trains, separated by country https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation
I think that the trip is possible within 22 days, even with the flexi pass (10 in 22) if you plan carefully.
